Beynon Bags Four

12 Oct 2009

The Kilgetty senior first team returned to winning ways with a resounding defeat of Hubberston AFC in the first round of the Senior Cup.  Michael Beynon making the most of his chances with no less than four goals, taking his tally for the season to nine.

Third Division outfit Hubberston were no match for their first division opponents, but the Kilgetty management team will certainly take positives from this game.  Not least of which will be the solid defensive performance.

Hopefully this win will give the boys a bit of confidence going into the “must win” match against Prenergast Villa next week.

West Wales Cup Draw

11 Sep 2009

Kilgetty have been given a tough away draw in the first round of the West Wales Cup.  Trallwm AFC currently play in Division 1 of the Carmarthenshire League, and will present a difficult test for Kilgetty.

Hopefully, if we can get a result in the cup, it might be the spur to lift the boys towards a more positive approach and a good run in the league.

Good luck boys!

Back with a Whimper

11 Sep 2009

3 games played, 14 goals conceeded, one goal scored.

There is a lot of head scratching around the Kingsmoor Sports Ground.  How is this happening?  With a squad that many agree, is an improvement on last season, it has been a difficult question for anyone to answer.

Saturday’s game at home to Herbrandston is an opportunity to put things right.  Herbie haven’t had the greatest of starts either, only picking up two draws, home and away to Clarbeston Road.  So, this must be seen as an opportunity for Kilgetty to get some points on the board.

I think we are all hoping for a good performance from our defenders this time round.

West Wales Cup Match Abandoned

07 Oct 2008

Kilgetty’s first round match of the West Wales Cup only lasted 45 minutes on Saturday, after persistent, torrential rain forced the referee to abandon the match as the playing surface became dangerously unplayable.

This means the match will have to be replayed, but the venue has yet to be clarified.  The manager will be hoping for a return to the Kingsmoor Ground, seeing another trip up the M4 as a distraction to the League Campaign which has started so well.

Whilst the venue is still in doubt, we understand the fixture will be replayed on 11th October, meaning that the scheduled Cup match for that day will now be pushed into November.

Double Cup Triumph!

02 May 2008

More than 50 years since the last 2nd Division Double, this generation of players wrote their name in the history books, with a 5 - 1 demolition of Saundersfoot, in the 2nd Division Cup final.

The opening exchange was a very nervous affair, with Saundersfoot very much on top.  In fact, if Carl Wainright and Phil Jones had taken their chances early on, it might have been a very different story.  However, on the half hour mark, Kilgetty were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box and Nicky Cope stepped up to calmly slam the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net.

After this, you could see the Kilgetty players relax, and within ten minutes Nicky had doubled his tally with a brilliant individual goal, slipping past two defenders and beating the keeper at his near post. Kilgetty were 2-0 up at the break and looking comfortable.

Five minutes after the restart, and it was Saundersfoot who got the benefit of a soft penalty award. Dai got his hand to the spot-kick, but it just managed to squeeze into the goal. For a moment, It looked like Saundersfoot would get back into the game, but 20 minutes later, Jack Bevan lost his defender at a corner and drilled in a volley.  The score stood at 3-1, and now Kilgetty had the game by the scruff of the neck.

Saundersfoot’s anguish was made worse, when the keeper, who had looked nervous all night, bundled the ball into his own net and the night was rounded off when Geoff Marsh was first on to a threaded pass to get in behind the back four and cooly slot past the forlorn keeper.

The game finished at 5-1 and the celebrations went on into the night.

2nd Division Champions

22 Apr 2008

A 1-0 win over derby rivals Saundersfoot was enough to clinch the title at the Kingsmoor Ground.  Saundersfoot showed their physical side in an attempt to bully Kilgetty, but the boys in blue had enough class to edge them out.

Kilgetty and Saundersfoot will meet again on wednesday 23rd April for the 2nd Division Cup Final, which is set to be another tense afair.

Senior 1st Team Reach Cup Final!

19 Feb 2008

Two Goals from Copey, two from Geoff and one from Jack ensured that Kilgetty will be in the Second Division Cup Final in April.

Fishguard were completely overwhelmed by the dominance of Kilgetty, only managing a consolation goal with what was their only shot of the game.

If Saundersfoot get past Milford next weekend, in the other semi-final, we could be in for a showdown of titanic proportions.  The local rivalry between these two teams should make for a rip roaring, absolutely blimmin belter of a match.

Bring it on…

Kilgetty 9 v 0 Milford Athletic

30 Jan 2008

The Senior First team overcame a heavy pitch, which fortunately had been unaffected by the morning’s junior match, to defeat Milford by a clear nine goals.

Whilst the visitors never stopped battling, they really didn’t stand a chance when up against this imperious Kilgetty display.

Despite the under 8s playing across the top half of the pitch just hours previously, Kilgetty still managed to score five in the first half, on this very same surface! - putting paid to the rumours that the junior teams use of the pitch may be affecting the senior team’s chance of promotion.

2nd Division Cup - Quarter Final

25 Nov 2007

Kilgetty 5 v 0 Pendine

Kilgetty booked a place in the 2nd Division Cup Semi Final with a convincing win over local rivals Pendine, who lived up to their Neanderthal reputation, having two players sent off, or was that three? Not sure if that last fella had just given up, leaving the remaining eight players to conitnue alone as he made his way to the showers.

With such a convincing performance, you could be forgiven for already booking your seat at the Bridge Meadow, but lets not get carried away…no, second thoughts, lets…Cmon lads, were one game away from the cup final!

West Wales Cup:
Seren Goch 1 v 2 Kilgetty

07 Oct 2007

BREAKING NEWS

Kilgetty snatch a dramatic away win in the first round of the West Wales Cup, scoring the winner just minutes before full time.

Dai Griff described the game as, “f@#*%n fantastic! Me & Tommy James drank 10 pints before we’d even got to Swansea!”

Hopefully, a more coherent report will follow soon.
