Narberth u9s 0 v 12 Kilgetty u9s

15 Dec 2009

oliver-gamble.jpgOn a cold and frosty morning in Narbeth, Kilgetty’s Under 9’s delivered their best performance of the season so far.

Following a narrow 4-3 victory earlier in the season, this was an eagerly awaited rematch.

From the first whistle Kilgetty dominated, and by half time they were 4-0 ahead. The second half was even better, and by the final whistle Kilgetty had scored an incredible dozen unanswered goals.

A lot of credit has to go to the Narbeth team who never stopped trying.

Kilgetty team was; Dylan Davies, Ryan Scourfield, Oliver Gamble, Ryan Moffat, Zac Rowell, Oliver Griffin, John Mansbridge, and Oliver Wheeler.

Tenby u9s 3 v 4 Kilgetty u9s

07 Dec 2009

Zac RowellIn conditions more suited to swimming than football, these two teams served up an excellent exhibition of football at a saturated Clicketts.

Kilgetty, missing players, and suffering from a lack of confidence after their first defeat the previous week, looked nervous, and it was no surprise to see Tenby take a deserved 3-1 half-time lead.

Halftime saw a complete change around, and a frantic final quarter of the game saw Kilgetty pressure turn into three late goals, and meant that Kilgetty completed the double over Tenby this season. Well done to both teams for overcoming the conditions.

Kilgetty u9s 2 v 2 Clarbeston Road A u9s

19 Oct 2009

ollie-wheeler.jpgThe first away game of the season for Kilgettys’ under 9’s was under threat until the last minute due to illness and holidays.

We arrived at Clarbeston Road in the bright sunshine for an early kick-off, and were grateful that we had 8 players. The boys were asked to occupy new positions and given a new formation, and told not to get injured as we had no subs!

It took us a while to gel, and Clarby scored first, but it was 1-1 at half-time.  A see-saw second half saw Clarby go ahead again, but in the last minute, a goal-mouth scramble was turned in by Oliver Wheeler with his second goal, to leave a final score of Clarby Road ‘A’ Under 9’s 2 v Kilgetty Under 9’s 2. Well done boys on an excellent fighting spirit.

Beynon Bags Four

12 Oct 2009

The Kilgetty senior first team returned to winning ways with a resounding defeat of Hubberston AFC in the first round of the Senior Cup.  Michael Beynon making the most of his chances with no less than four goals, taking his tally for the season to nine.

Third Division outfit Hubberston were no match for their first division opponents, but the Kilgetty management team will certainly take positives from this game.  Not least of which will be the solid defensive performance.

Hopefully this win will give the boys a bit of confidence going into the “must win” match against Prenergast Villa next week.

Kilgetty U9s 6 v 0 Tenby U9s

05 Oct 2009

Ollie-Zac-Ollie.jpg

A wet and windy Autumnal day greeted the two teams for the opening match of the Under 9’s  season, but the adverse weather conditions didn’t prevent a large and enthusiastic group of spectators from attending.

From the first whistle both teams gave 100%, and following an even opening, Kilgetty began to dominate and by half-time they were 2-0 up.

Tenby never gave up trying, but by full-time it was 6-0 to Kilgetty. The goal-scorers were Oliver Wheeler(4), Oliver Gamble, and Zac Rowell, but it  was  a complete team performance, so well done to Dylan Davies, Ben Harris, John Mansbridge, Ryan Scourfield, Ryan Moffatt and Oliver Griffin.

Kilgetty 2 v 2 Herbrandston

14 Sep 2009

The referee came in for some critisim after a bizzare series of decisions led to a game-changing turn of circumstances

Kilgetty were 2-0 up and cruising, when they should have been awarded a penalty for clear foul play in the goalkeepers area.  Everyone saw the incedent, including the Herbie linesman, but as the offending defender prepared for his marching orders, the referee, who’s position was poor, decided that the offence had taken place outside of the penalty area.

The free kick was taken quickly, and a goal was scored, but to add insult to injury, the referee insisted that the kick was re-taken.  From the re-taken kick, Herbrandston regained possesion, broke away, and scored at the other end.

We all make mistakes, referees included, but this was a costly one for Kilgetty.

Arguably, if the penalty had been scored, the game would have been over.  However, we musn’t hide from the fact, that at 2-1, the game was still won. The crushing blow was to then surrender another goal.

Taking the positives from the game, Kilgetty were by far the better team up until the penalty incident.  Playing a more fluid passing game than in recent matches, where many of the players had looked devoid of confidence.  Hopefully the players can take heart from the 1st half performance in this match and can travel to Clarbeston Road on Saturday with renewed confidence.

West Wales Cup Draw

11 Sep 2009

Kilgetty have been given a tough away draw in the first round of the West Wales Cup.  Trallwm AFC currently play in Division 1 of the Carmarthenshire League, and will present a difficult test for Kilgetty.

Hopefully, if we can get a result in the cup, it might be the spur to lift the boys towards a more positive approach and a good run in the league.

Good luck boys!

Back with a Whimper

11 Sep 2009

3 games played, 14 goals conceeded, one goal scored.

There is a lot of head scratching around the Kingsmoor Sports Ground.  How is this happening?  With a squad that many agree, is an improvement on last season, it has been a difficult question for anyone to answer.

Saturday’s game at home to Herbrandston is an opportunity to put things right.  Herbie haven’t had the greatest of starts either, only picking up two draws, home and away to Clarbeston Road.  So, this must be seen as an opportunity for Kilgetty to get some points on the board.

I think we are all hoping for a good performance from our defenders this time round.

Junior Football Festival Cancelled

30 Mar 2009

We regrettably announce that, due to circumstances beyond our control, this year’s Football Festival will not be going ahead.

A number of factors have conspired against us, not least of which was the closure of the clubhouse due to flooding.  It was hoped that the club would be re-built in time for the Festival, but with hindsight this was a little ambitous.

We felt that this year it would have been extremely difficult to offer a Festival of the highest standards on which we pride ourselves.  We have instead decide to focus all of our energies towards producing an outsanding event for next year.

All monies recieved so far from entrants will be returned immediately.  If anybody has any questions regarding this situation, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are very sorry to not be able to offer our hospitality this year, but hope that you will all return next year for the Kilgetty AFC 2010 Football Festival.

Hundleton U8s 1 v 3 Kilgetty U8s

08 Dec 2008

Kilgetty’s little Brazilians won a hard fought game over Hundleton on Saturday, but the real winner was football.

Encouraged to ‘go in hard’, and goaded from the sidelines by misguided parents, the Hundleton players did just that.  It was sad to see, but from the moment the match started, until its end, our little fellas were subject to a series of wild challenges, which the referee chose to ignore.

Praise must go to the Kilgetty players, who refused to be bullied, but also didn’t retaliate.  John Mansbridge, taking the armband for the first time, lead the team admirably by example.  Showing great skill with the ball, and leadership on the field.

Zac especially recieved a greater part of the rough challenges, but he just picked himself up and got on with the game, and was soon rewarded when he ran through on goal.  His fist shot was saved, but Zac followed in his shot and buried the rebound.

Five minutes later, Hundleton equalised with a well worked indiviual goal.  The left-footed striker managed to get past Jack Rees at the back, and shot back across goal with the outside of his left boot to beat Dazy at the far post.

With the scores level at half-time, Ollie Gamble, who had been injured in the pre-match warm up, decided that his injury may not be so serious, and came on in place of Ben Harris, who had performed bravely in the centre of midfield.

Ollie was instructed to sit in front of the defence, and ensure that we didn’t concede again.  A task that he stuck to, and even when he pushed up and joined the attack he still made some great recovery runs to stiffle any counter attack.

The outstanding performance of another Oliver, Oliver Griffin is a measure of how far this young fella has come as a player.  Griffin has always been one of the more skilfull players on the team, but now he has also added strength and determination to his game.  Playing a narrower formation this time, this winger was more than prepared to come inside and face some tough challenges, but he rode every one of them, and more times than not, appeared with the ball coming out the other end.

Half-way through the second half, Ollie Gamble fizzed a shot towards the back post, which Oliver Wheeler managed to deflect into the back of the goal.  No more than Wheeler deserved, for his tireless work down the left flank.

2-1 up, and the Hundleton support again demanded more thuggery.  With Zac shielding the ball on the touchline, one Hundleton parent, just ten yards away screamed ‘take him out!’, and so the defender duly obliged, and kicked Zac in the back of his ankles. Take him out? What are they teaching these kids?

Thankfully, Kilgetty let their football do the talking.  Moments later, Kilgetty forced a corner, and Ollie placed the ball perfectly for the captain to head home.  3 - 1 and the game was effectively over.  Tom Mansbridge came on for the last few minutes in place of Jack Rees, who along with Ryan Scourfield had put in a really solid performance that ensured no goals were conceded in the second half.  Praise must also go to Dazy Lloyd for her brave and bold attitude between the sticks - the girl in green, Kilgetty’s no.1 .
